Squash blossoms are basically the edible flowers of the plants that produce summer or winter squash, such as zucchini, spaghetti squash or other types of squash. While both male and female blossoms can be eaten, the male blossoms are often picked, leaving the female blossoms to produce some fruit (squash).
When Are Squash Blossoms in Season?
Typically in season from late spring to early fall, squash blossoms are highly perishable and are more often found at farmers’ markets as opposed to supermarkets. Because they are not easily available, I say grab them if you see them!
