In the season premiere episode, “1883” the Dutton family embarks on a journey west through the last bastion of untamed America. James (Tim McGraw) arrives in Texas ahead of the rest of his family as he prepares for the family to make their way across the Great Plains in search of a new home and the promise of opportunity. In the following episode, “Behind Us, A Cliff,” Thomas (LaMonica Garrett) and Shea (Sam Elliott) recruit James and some local cowboys to corral a herd of cattle. As they begin their journey, the caravan is confronted with some of the many dangers they will face along the way. We’re introduced to Jim Courtright (Billy Bob Thornton), the Fort Worth lawman with his own brand of frontier justice. Look for a cameo appearance by two-time Oscar winner Tom Hanks in a flashback of James’ days in the Civil War. Episodes of 1883 drop weekly on Paramount+.
